FEED ADDITIVES

Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulates the animal feed import in India. In India, currently feed additives are imported following the DGFT and BIS standards as per the FSSAI regulations. The regulation is under development in FSSAI. FSSAI has decided to bring the subject of animal feed under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and issued a direction that animal feed for food producing animals must comply with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The FSSAI is working on rules and regulations. The draft regulations were notified on 26.10.20 and are in the process of finalization which is likely to take some time. A per the notification published July 2021, FSSAI decided that the commercial feeds intended for cattle shall comply with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for Compounded feeds for Cattle (IS 2052:2009) and shall carry a BIS certification mark on the label of the products.
